Hounds Tooth Check

Oral health is critical to your pet's well-being and longevity, but many pet owners are reluctant to have their pet under general anesthesia for a simple dental cleaning.

This service is an alternative: Your pet's teeth can be cleaned and polished at the veterinarian's, but without anesthesia. 

NOTE: This service is only available under veterinary supervision.

What We Do

This work is similar to the dental hygiene done on humans, and for the same purpose:  It's preventive care to avoid gum disease and tooth loss. 

How is it done?  It takes a special touch with animals.  We use specialized animal handling techniques to hold and reassure your pet, letting them get used to the sensations and smells first.  We then remove the accumulated calculus from exposed tooth surfaces using dental instruments, polish the teeth, and rinse with an pet-safe antibacterial solution. Most of the work is done with the dog or cat in the hygienist's lap.

Is it effective?  The veterinarians providing this service are satisfied that this cleaning is effective, and would not be offering it if it were not also gentle and compassionate.  We all wanted pets to have clean teeth and to offer our clients a way to do it that was affordable, safe, and effective.
